Narrogin Rev Heads Poker Run
written by Ed 6 June 2009
Friday Night at South West Patriots Chapter, it was decided to ride to Narrogin to support the Rev- Heads Poker run and more importantly wave the Patriots flag in an effort to tap into the vast biker community.
Saturday morning Toad and Ed met up with Tilbs and headed for Narrogin via Collie/Williams, (boring run) got to Narrogin 10:15 hrs, we were three of the 322 registered participants, grabbed a quick breakfast at the Vietnamese Bread Shop and hit the road.
We were in first group to head off and unfortunately 30 meters into the ride, a rider and his Harley collided with a car badly fracturing his left leg and lots of skin missing, the Harley wasn’t all that bad shape. After rendering assistance the ride continued in a somewhat subdued, sombre manner, the rest of the Poker run fortunately, was uneventful.
The event was extremely well organised and supported by some very impressive hot machines, GTHO’s, Fairlanes, Chevrolets, Monaro’s complemented by the latest hotted-up cars mixed with a large contingent of motor bikes. And yes, there was the usual amount of comradeship, especially when incidents like a Monaro been towed to Quindanning by a Chrysler Valiant Charger (out of fuel).
Luckily, when departing the Quindanning Pub that there was no police presence, the road from the Quindanning Pub to the turn off just past the bridge got a speed & noisy exhaust work out, and noted a few deep tyre tracks suggesting some bikes had missed calculated the bend.
Completion of the was at the very impressive Rev-Heads club house and very well organised, raffles, music, beverages and meals, and then Karaoke. Early into the evening after a beer or few the Patriots Trio rode to Tilbs house ditched the bikes and got driven back to engage in the night’s entertainment. The community effort in supporting the event was overwhelming and the intention of our visit, exposure of the Patriots Chapter to the area was successful and yes the Patriots did get a mention with a few bikers interested in joining, Tilbs will follow through. The amount of bikes in this area is definitely worth tapping into and the South West Patriots will look at making inroads and expanding our membership.
A lot of progressive drinks into the night and most people headed home, not so the Patriot Trio and a few Rev-head committee members still supporting the bar, it was after a shaky introduction when Ed offered some unwelcome advice regarding one committee mans singing prowess, horror, horror, but it worked out when they discovered that Ed could speak a few different languages, all was fine and back on track.
The Rev –Head committee have offered to assist the Patriots whenever, offering their club house facilities, meals, bar and camp area.
Another matter, It did not gone unnoticed during the course of the day that for some reason only known to Toad he was off the alcohol beverage? Well the night moved on the clock ticked past 01:00 hrs and it was taxi time and the Patriot Trio to head back to Tilbs place, coffee and the sack!
A very, very chilly Sunday morning, coffee then on the road again to visit Mother at Northam, after a bit of the usual, Toads sight- seeing tour we arrived at Mothers, scones and coffee in front of warm welcome fire, thanks Mother. While Mother and Toad got down to Patriots business and setting up Toads PC, Turbo and Ed looked after the real business, talking motorbikes and the likes, thanks again Mother and Turbo for your hospitality!
Back on the road to Bunbury with heavy traffic heading south, this makes for good riding and pass our illustrious President driving in the opposite direction, it turned out to be a worthwhile weekend, love the away weekend rides and meeting different people.
On the down side and yes there is always a down side, how is it possible! the Patriot Trio (twice), the first time leaving Tilbs house and mind you being sober to get into a car with vests on? And then again later that night get into a taxi at the Rev Heads club house and been driven to Tilbs place with vests on? Well! We know who was sober and should have known better.
Single fines for the Trio for both trips, from the Clubhouse to Tilbs Place and later that night
Double fine for Tilbs, Tilbs house to Cub House – should have know better
Double Fine for Toad, Clubhouse to Tilbs house – should have known better Toad, you were sober!
One again it shows the value of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the injured Biker had to be flown to Perth, this type of accident could happen to any rider. The South West Chapter supports the RFDS via the Fallen Riders Darkan Run, so by you attending the Fallen Riders Run you are supporting the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
Stay up right - Ride safe!
