Jay Bee's Nom Ride
written by Jay Bee
On Saturday 7th November I planned my Nom ride through the South West.
We were to meet at the Gateway Garage, Bunbury at 9.45am (not 8.45am Burl) for a 10am departure.
Apart from a few clouds it was largely a fine morning.
All up, nine of us gathered, Toad, Hughesy, Burl, Shrek, Pam, Wayne, Ozzie, Bryce and myself.
At 10 we departed to Boyanup for the Vintage Motorbike Show and Swap Meet. Wouldn’t you know it we encountered a few showers, luckily nothing too serious. The show was quite impressive with many fine examples of BSAs, AJSs, JAP and many other older bikes. After approx 1 ½ hours here we headed off.
From Boyanup it was off through Donnybrook and on to Balingup, again with a few showers. At Balingup a group decision was made to have lunch here at the Tavern. Unfortunately, Shrek’s mum, Pam, thought we were going to have lunch in Nannup so turned off before Balingup. Whilst we all settled for lunch Pam travelled the country side to Nannup then back to rejoin us in Balingup.
After a couple of hours, lunch and a few beers we were off again back to Donnybrook where the group split with half heading directly back to Bunbury and the remainder heading to Capel. The weather remained fine for the afternoon run. Toad did a panic when he passed over a metre long Dugite on the road, lifted his feet and all.
On meeting the highway we turned and towards Busselton and opened the bikes up a little for the run to the Amblin Caravan Park where I was to be dropped off.
The days ride was incident free and, from my point of view very enjoyable. I’d like to express my appreciation to those who attended and gave their support, given the short notice. Special thanks to Toad for the loan of his Yamaha Vmax. The whole experience exceeded my expectations and I look forward to many more rides.
