Patch Dog's Nom Ride
written by Patch Dog (Albany Chapter)
Being as it was my nom ride it was my job to pick and plan the day’s trip. After some thought I settled on up the Albany Hwy to Mt Barker out along the Muir Hwy through the winery areas, stopping at a winery then cutting off the Muir Hwy through down to Demark stopping at the pub for lunch then returning to Albany via the lower Denmark Rd. Sounds easy right! Yep the night before the run I had a sudden had rush of shit to the brain and decided to check out the course via Google earth on the computer as there had been new roads and road upgrades throughout the Mt Barker area. After punching Mt Barker into the computer it became pretty obvious that his wasn’t going to work as the whole of the Mt Barker area was under cloud cover the day the satellite was flying over, great.
On Saturday the 16th at 10.30 hours we met at Muzz Buzz as planned, seven of us in all. I started explaining the route but was then interrupted by Rusty saying that the road between Barker and the Denmark turn off had a kilometre or so of very rough road works, damn as we were standing around debating on a new route around the road works we were suddenly jolted into action by Andy stating bloody hurry up I need a leak. So we were off, yes my nom ride starts, driven by the need of a potty. On arrival at Barker and after Andy had lowered the fluid and was able to see straight again it was decided to stop off at the bakery where we had morning tea.
We were still assessing what to do regarding the road works ahead, Rusty still sounding a warning of how rough it was. Have I mention before that Rusty rides a Triumph? We leave Barker and 10km later we hit the road works. After traversing the kilometre or so I got to tell you it was the smoothest part of the whole trip. With this now out the way we headed for the Winery, Hmm the Winery was a little disappointing, thought there would’ve been more to see, but as Rusty had been scaring the crap out of us over the road works etc some were in needed another potty break anyway. On leaving the Winery we nearly lost Rusty due to honky nuts on the driveway, have I mentioned that he rides a Triumph!
On arrival at the Denmark pub we crashed the restaurant area looking for food it was now 1300 hour and Andy needed to be fed. On ordering our meals and grabbing some drinks we sat at the tables, a short time later the food arrived. Bloody sure Rusty didn’t know he’d order something resembling a deep fried hedgehog, and as long as he picked at it carefully all would be sweet, on finishing lunch Andy was busting for a smoke and headed out the door, Rusty and l followed we were also quickly followed up by the barmaid given us our marching orders, there was to be NO smoking on any part of the pub grounds. Decamping the pub we settled into the park across the road, the rest soon followed. After debating local politics and letting lunch settle it was decided to wind up the day by coming back to my place for coffee etc, On a serious note though I’d like to thank everyone for coming on the ride, special thanks to Andy and his bladder, over wise we’d still be standing at Muzz Buzz!
Thanks mate
