Rusty’s Nom Ride
By Andy Albany Chapter 30th April, 2011
30th April saw nine bikes, riders and pillions, gather for at the start point, Muzz Buzz, for the strangely different nom ride of Rusty’s. Strange from the point of view that we never left the environs of Albany and at no part was the speed limit over 90 k’s. Actually it was a pleasant ride averaging 80 but warm, relaxed and the Harleys never got out of 5th gear, but still fun.
Having started at Muzz Buzz, to get on the route we were to take we had to go around the block. Burty found this a bit confusing for himself and we had lost him by the fourth corner. He realized his mistake and caught up before the fifth corner, ---------$2.00 fine coming up! The route took us out to Whale World via Hanrahan Rd, Frenchman Bay Rd, stopping off at the Gap on the way.
The Gap as you know is a tourist destination and a very dangerous part of the south coast yet very has spectacular scenery. After a look over the edge from the safety cage we became the attraction for a coach full of Chinese nationals who climbed all over the big bikes and took photos of themselves and us. We took off from there rather noisily and fast to the Chinese oohing and airing, heading for coffee at the whale world restaurant.
We watched Tank eat eggs on toast as we drank our coffees and yarned. The panorama of King George’s Sound was a spectacular backdrop to the scene with crystal clear waters supporting a bevy of amateur fisher persons on boats around the Islands of Michealmas and Breaksea.
On the road again thru the suburbs of the south coast of Albany, Goode Beach, and Little Grove. This leg took us to the northern fringes of Albany where we pulled in to the Biker friendly road house at Bakers Junction run by the family Gerovich’s. Homemade pies and chips were the fare of chose it seemed and the obligatory coffee once again. Satisfying the inner body with food it was a quick blast down the road to the Millbrook Tavern for a light beer or cider and to thank the licensee’s for looking after us so well on Anzac Day.
From here we took the mob into town to view what will become our club house, hopefully by the AGM and to see what needed to be done to bring it up to scratch. A bloody great day! Rusty passes on his thanks to all that attended his nom ride and made it so enjoyable.
Added report from Rusty
Well Sat the 30th April was a great weather day!
I wanted to have a local run to see the local sights with a TURN RIGHT theme! – that includes you Berty!!!!
I had 12 Patriots show up for my ride - wow that’s awesome thanks guys.
Members on the run were Andy, Trev, Pauline, Justly, Sticky, Leslie, Caz, Berty, Kym, Harry, Tank And Jonesy.
We headed out from Our Normal Meeting place and headed to “The Gap” for a Photo Opportunity – see photo’s.
Next was Albany’s Whale world – for that much needed comfort break and coffee and food (smokes for some).
The road was great dry and winding with good corners and mostly right turns (Burty? Now where did he go???)
From there Leslie was hungry so we Blatted to Bakers Junction Roadhouse for a really great feed
Next stop was the King River Tavern for a further comfort break? - Thats when Patchdog turned up - he’d been down the shed so wasn’t able to be there at the start.
After a brief period of fellowship we all wound our way’s home
Again a good run and thanks to all for a great day!
Oh and importantly for Patchdog – no Fatboys were wettened during the course of the day!
(Oh Didn’t I tell you he rode a Harley?)
