Mo’s Nom Ride
written by Andy Albany Chapter 14th May, 2011
A sunny Saturday afternoon had 10 bikes and 11 people front up for the blast that was fast, being Justin’s nom ride.
We will have to get another name patch for Justin, never realized he is also known as Mo.
So from this point forward he is “Mo”. I bet there by hangs a tale tall but true!!
Route taken covered ground ridden over many times before but forever a great ride. We didn’t commence the ride till the afternoon which was a good idea as it allowed those that work Saturday mornings to come along. The route started at the usual Muzz Buzz and headed out Chester Pass Rd to Kambellup where we swung into Woodgenilup Rd and toward Mt Barker. Twenty eight K’s down the ride swung north on Carbarup Rd for 11K’s into the hamlet of Kendenup. It was here we stopped for a coffee and a break to relieve the bum and have a yak. The people at the store just about know us intimately as we pull up here so often.
This break gave us the opportunity to get to talk bikes and properly meet Mo’s three mates that he bought along for the ride also. Tom, Brian and Mal fitted in well with us and seemed to be enjoying the ride, we hope that they did anyway and it was good to meet them. They can come on any of our rides anytime.
The ride continued on back down Carbarup Rd to the Woodgy Rd intersection and continued on to Mt Barker. At this point three riders peeled off and headed home as they had other commitments to attend to. The rest of us headed down the Muir H/way, (after safely negotiating the notoriously slippery Mt Barker roundabout) passing thru recently upgraded sections of road thru farming and wine producing countryside. On to the Denbarker Rd for about 10K’s to the Spencer Rd intersection that lead toward Narrikup and the Albany H/way.
Spencer Rd was a blast and a road not often travelled by us. It has been recently upgraded and resealed. What we have been left with is a wide smooth and fast road thru rural properties with fantastic sweeping corners, over long steady rises that suddenly drop away thru the valleys. A fast and enjoyable road indeed.
Hitting Albany H/way at the other end of Spencer Rd we swung south and headed for home as the crisp evening air set in. Everyone enjoyed the ride and we’ll be sure to use Spencer Rd again.
Thanks for the great ride Mo, and Mo passes on his thanks to those that came along and made his Nom ride a success.
