Kym's Nom Ride
1st May 2011 Albany Chapter by Andy

Introducing Kym to you all, she is the partner of Rusty. Kym has nom’d up as an Associate member and it’s great to have another lady in the crew. Her nom ride showed that she handles a Bonnie as well if not better than some males I’ve seen and I believe she is known to push it to extremes at times. (She’d give Mabe of the Perth north Chapter a run for his money on a Triumph.)
We met at Bakers Junction roadhouse which was handy for fueling up before the run, before heading north on Chester Pass Rd. The day was crisp, not cold, and the sun promised a pleasant ride of a bit over 100 k’s. Eight bikes left after Lew didn’t turn up. He phoned to say it was raining in town and his Harley wheels turned to marshmallow if he got them wet.
We blasted up the road and turned left onto the Mt Barker – Porongerups road some 40 klm out of Albany going thru to Barker where the first brake was. At the BP where we stopped we picked up another rider (his name escapes me) and he joined us for the ride. A future Nom as he is ex-Army Reserve.
From here we headed up the Highway and swung east to the hamlet of Kendenup. Kendenup is an intriguing little settlement on the western end of the Stirling ranges. Here we had lunch at the Deli which now sports a full on licenced restaurant next door, but that was a bit rich for us.
Kym took us around to see the guy, Peter, from whom she bought her Bonnie. Peter is a collector of anything automotive and proudly showed us his collection of motoring memorabilia from yesteryear. Posters, tools, badges, oil drums, sparkplugs, filters, signs, valve lapping machines, jacks, and the list goes on. A very interesting hour was spent here.
On the track again, down Carbellup? Rd, over the rail crossing to the intersection of Woodgenelup Rd where we pointed east toward Kambellup and the Chester Pass Rd intersection. Here was the drink and relief stop before heading back to Albany. It was here we decided to head to Jonesy’s place for coffee. And the rain came down, all the way home!!
Thanks to Lea and Jonesy for a great afternoon tea, to Kym for a really great ride, and to all those that supported Kym on her ride.
