Glassy’s Nom Ride
written by Glassy South Chapter 23rd January, 2011
With a meeting time of 1000 at the Baldivis Caltex Service station a promising turnout was evident with 11 Bikes already parked up at 0950.
At 1015 the brief was given with respect to the route and expectations of corner markers of which Bronco volunteered to take charge of (Thanks Bronco), the importance of “1 in all in” outlining that riders ensure they keep an eye in their rear view to slow up if there is distance growing between themselves and the rider behind so we maintain a tight ship and many thanks to Len our Road Captain for volunteering to ensure nobody was left behind as Tailend Charlie.
A big thank you also goes out to Mitch and Marg from the North who came down but unfortunately could not begin the run for safety reasons.
1030 and the engines were firing, 22 bikes exited the Caltex for a short run along the Freeway to Mundijong Road and our day of riding had begun, overcast and threatening to rain we were fortunate enough to have a dry run along the way to North Bannister via Jarrahdale with a few opportunities to blow out any cobwebs along the way.
Nth Bannister Roadhouse was our first stop and all was going well at the time, those that felt like coffee and snack had to wait in line while the counter attendant was doing her best to win over Surly (what else would you expect from a male model like Surley? however Pornno is sure there was a cane and Labrador next to her). A big thank you to Croc for his support who exited at this time.
Stage 2 began as we undertook the challenge of the Wandering Loop to the Boddington Hotel. We mounted up and cruised along this stretch at a steady pace to ensure we were stayed together and then all of a sudden an unexpected change in terrain was on the horizon, it was time for some dirt bike riding. As we approached I was thinking “Great, this wasn’t here two weeks ago” and then I thought “well it makes it interesting” unfortunately I could feel the stares burning holes through the back of my helmet, it appeared not too many others shared the same interests, those of us on Harleys seemed to be alright however a certain Treasurer claimed to have Kawasaki Tattooed on his butt from his cheeks clenching the seat so damn tight, we all made it through this character building stage and continued on to the Pub for Lunch.
Boddington provided us with sterling service and hospitality, good country grub at respectable price at the Boddington Hotel and the service provided by the Boddington BP staff who came out from their home on a Sunday afternoon specifically to fuel us up was exemplary, (Thanks Mr T for letting him know we were finished fuelling up). After a good feed and chit chat Len and Sooz went off for the longest 10 minute visit in history to see an old mate while a Barmaid was trying her best to win over Bronco.
The next length from Boddington to Pinjarra was off to a good start; Len and Sooz playing catch up while the rest of us managed to avoid any more off road riding. A few spits of rain along the way but that wasn’t causing any issues.
A Smoke Break at the Premier Hotel led to the departure of around half the group and also gave us a great opportunity to split on Pornno while he was having a beer; he still managed to catch up though under the guidance of Fuzz while Alan just disappeared into the distance.
Thanks to J.J. for getting the last few turns sorted at the end of the run, for anyone who wondered where the weigh bridge leads to on the Southern end of the Freeway it leads straight back onto the Freeway.
The reception at the Port Kennedy RSL by other members who couldn’t make the run was also very much appreciated.
All in all a fun day, good tucker and a few moments I am sure a few of my support riders aren’t going to let me forget in a hurry.
A Big thank you to Gazza, Fuzz, Hunter, Jack, Alan, Croc, Spider, Len, Sooz, Bronco, Mitch, Marg, Pte West, Surley, Lethal, Marls, J.J., Trapper, Mr T, Eddy, Dingo, Pornno, Danny B and the support crew from the South Chapter at the Port Kennedy RSL ( I hope that’s everyone) your attendance, no matter at which stage, is greatly appreciated.
