2nd Annual Telethon Ride 2011
Report by Arty with photos by Mel 16th October 2011
Well here we are for Telethon Ride number two, up at 0500 hrs, eager to get down to the Rockingham Hotel. A quick check of the skies and I already knew from what I saw, we were in for a really good day. Had Jimmy, Trev and Pauline stay the night; they had ridden up from Albany the day before. Thank you all so much for making the effort and giving the $300 Donation. Also coming on the ride is our two visitors, Sarah from Hong Kong, riding with 1Mother and Laura from Canada, riding with Milo.
We arrived at the Hotel at 0710 hrs to find the sausage sizzle and Registration areas already set up, great job you guys. Wasn’t too long before the first bike rolled in and then they just kept on coming. A total of 271 registrations.
1000 hrs arrived and guess what? No Police escort, so a bit of quick thinking by Lenny and the other Tail end Charlie’s and everything was under control. Jumped on my bike to start the ride and no ignition, a few panicked bashes of the kill switch and the bike fired up, what a relief.
Bronco joined me up the front to lead the ride; we headed straight up the coast to enter Patterson Road at the Kwinana Beach Road lights. We carried onto Anketell Road and then onto the Freeway to Hillarys Marina or as 1Mother would say, Hilliers Beach, LOL.
At Hillarys most people headed for the Marina, many Members went fund raising, shaking tins and stripping down before jumping off the jetty for more money, I was told there were many hot and bothered women after that. Good on you Glassy and Milo.
The ride back to the Rockingham Hotel was straight down the coast due to road works south bound on the freeway. Unfortunately Kiddo thought you were supposed to drive over a medium strip and blew a tyre on her way back, thanks for the young fella who assisted her, and Scottie for making sure that Kiddo got back safely to the Hotel.
At the Hotel we had a great time, 22 raffle draws and a lot of people reminiscing about the ride. We had a huge response from Sponsors once again and a really good effort put in by everybody on the day. Thanks to the Rockingham Hotel for the use of their premises, it was a great venue.
To all our Sponsors, Fellow Patriot Brothers and Sisters, our Supporters, the wider Biker Community and anybody else that was able to help out in any way on the day, I sincerely give thanks to all of you.
Because of your combined efforts we were able to raise $11, 147.85 for Telethon. Well done every body.
Kind Regards,
Arty 1050.
